On the occasion of declaring 2005 as "Urban Development Year", the Hon' Chief Minister had released the Vision Document, wherein an announcement was made to form Urban Development Mission.
With this backdrop and to ensure rightful spending of GOI's funds under JNNURM, the Government of Gujarat constituted Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM) and designated the same as a nodal agency for Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).
The objective of the Mission is to support urban renewal and urban infrastructure development in the given timeframe for attaining better living standards, amenities and creating a congenial environment for people to live and work, in the urban areas of Gujarat.
Gujarat has emerged as a front-runner in the implementation of the projects under JnNURM with nearly 200 projects worth Rs. 8800 crore under various sectors like BRTS, Road/Over-bridges, water supply, drainage, old city revitalization, etc.
