Urban infrastructure is a generic name of the sector, which includes various types of services like Sewerage network, Solid Waste disposal system, Energy efficiency and Townships provided in the urban agglomerations.   • Sanitation and Solid waste management
  • Slum and primary health services
  • Electricity and gas distribution
  • Energy Efficiency Projects
  • Environmental Regulation
  • Multilevel Parking/ parking related facilities

 

Moreover to this, development of residential townships is also an important aspect of development of urban infrastructure.

 

Institutional Framework for Urban Infrastructure


The Constitution (73rd and 74th Amendment of 1992) created the statutory framework for a third tier of government for rural and urban areas through democratic decentralisation. The powers and functions that the State Government may devolve to local governments through legislation are;

  • Urban planning including town planning
  • Regulation for land use and construction of buildings
  • Planning for economic and social development
  • Roads and bridges
  • Sewerage Network for domestic, industrial and commercial purposes
  • Rehabilitation & resettlement of slum pockets
